Our GAA History

We compete at all age levels(1st yr, 2nd yr, Juvenile, and Senior) and play in Connaught Colleges B Division.1st yrs start the season in the Brady Cup Blitz in Manorhamilton. A huge number of boys participate in our National game and the number of our students who have gone on to represent either Leitrim or Roscommon at Senior Inter-County level is well into double figures. Success has eluded us of late at senior level, but since the school’s formation we have won a number of titles:

  • Connaught Vocational A champions 1995 & ’96 (failing to win the 3-in-a-row by a point in ’97).
  • Connaught Colleges Senior B League Champions 2001
  • Connaught Colleges A semi-finalists in 2001.

Numerous Corn Breifni titles have come our way in the various age groups.

2009

Juvenile “B” League victories over Ballyhaunis, Kiltimagh and St. Nathy’s, and a draw with Castlebar, saw us paired against Spiddal (who topped their group) in the semi-final.A very strong finish saw us through on a 2-12 to 1-7 scoreline. The final against St.Attracta’s of Tubbercurry brought out the best in our side who convincingly took the Provincial title with a thoroughly merited 2-11 to 0-4 success (Jan 30)

The Championship campaign started with a bye. A late penalty saw us through a tight game with St. Nathy’s to earn a semi-final spot on a 2-13 to 1-9 scoreline. The semi against Ballyhaunis went to the proverbial wire and we were perhaps fortunate to scrape through by the narrowest of margins; 1-9 to 0-11. On 24th April we again lined up against St. Attracta’s. The Tubbercurry team looked like gaining revenge for their league defeat when they led by 6 points with 10 minutes remaining.A storming finish by the Carrick boys led by a rampant Conor Farrell at midfield, with Michael McManus netting the all-important goal and sharpshooter Joe O’Rourke tacking on the match-winning points saw us achieve a memorable victory by 1-13 to 2-9.

We took considerable pride in the success of the Roscommon minor side in 2006.Three of our players starred throughout the campaign, and the entire school was able to celebrate the coming of the Tom Markham Cup to Carrick on Shannon.
