Authentication of Coursework, Leaving Certificate
This is a notice for 5th or 6th Year students who wish to take an extra subject (an eight subject) for their Leaving Certificate Examination.
Many subjects now have a Digital Component as part of the course. The school submits this work to the State Examinations Commission electronically and in doing so, the work of the student is authenticated by the school. Carrick-on-Shannon CS can only authenticate work that has been completed in this school under the supervision of our teachers. It is also a requirement that the school can demonstrate that the student was timetabled for tuition in the subject in Carrick-on-Shannon CS.

Subject Options 2024/2025
On our return to school in November 2024, we will advise all students on the implications of student choices of subjects in Leaving Certificate.
An information night will be held for all students and parents on senior cycle options and the implications of subject choices.
Students choose to follow either the Leaving Certificate(the traditional course), the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (L.C.V.P. – depends on subjects chosen), the Leaving Certificate Applied (L.C.A.) or the Transition Year Option.(T.Y.O)
Senior Cycle options/subjects offered will depend on requirements indicated by students, resources available, and sufficient numbers to justify providing them.
All students take Gaeilge (unless exempt), English and Maths. In addition all students in the Leaving Certificate Cycle will avail of study in Religious Education, Physical Education, Career Guidance, Computer Studies and SPHE in 5th year.
Students choose four subjects from the following list in the case of Leaving Certificate (traditional) or L.C.V.P.:

Relationships and Sexuality Education
The delivery of RSE (Relationships and Sexuality Education) is a requirement for all students in our school. The Department of Education instruct that students should receive at least 6 lessons each year of RSE throughout their time in secondary school.
The aims of RSE are:
- to help young people understand and develop friendships and relationships
- to promote an understanding of sexuality
- to promote a positive attitude to ones sexuality and the sexuality of others
- to promoe knowledge and respect for reproduction
- to enable young people to develop attitudes and values in a moral/ spiritual/ social context.
